Following our relocation from Oxfordshire to Carmarthenshire, we are now seeking new team members to join us in the following roles:
Cheesemaker (or Trainee Cheesemaker) - Full-time and part-time considered
Cheese-making assistant - Part-time (10-12 hours per week)
Milker/ stockperson (dairy goats) - Part-time (hours and shifts negotiable, could be a stand-alone role or combined with one of the other roles advertised for the right candidate)
Norton and Yarrow Cheese are artisan cheese makers and dairy goat farmers, located between Llangadog and Llanddeusant. We are a small, family-run business employing a friendly team on the farm. Cheesemaker (or Trainee Cheesemaker) - Full- time or part-time considered
This role could suit someone with existing experience as a cheesemaker or someone who has a passion for artisan food production and wishes to train as a cheesemaker with us - we are open-minded about what experience might be relevant.
Duties will include:
carrying out all aspects of the cheese-making process, including starting cheese makes, ladelling, salting, moulding and un-moulding cheese
preparing and cleaning equipment
caring for cheese during the maturation process
wrapping cheese
stock takes and stock management
Essential Qualities
keen attention to detail;
ability to both follow instructions carefully and use your own initiative;
ability to work independently once trained;
meticulous standards of cleanliness and hygiene;
genuine interest in understanding the process of cheese making and maturation;
willingness to learn and undertake training;
physical ability to stand throughout shifts and undertake physical work such as lifting and cleaning.
Work hours and patterns can be negotiated, however availability for some weekend work will be an advantage, as will being able to start work at or before 8am on at least some days of the week.
Rates of pay can be negotiated for an experienced candidate; the starting trainee wage offered is £13.43 per hour, with additional payments for weekend (25%) and bank holiday (50%) working. If we employ you as a trainee, pay will increase after a training period.

Cheese-making assistant - 10-12 hours per week
No previous experience is required for this role, which could suit someone with existing experience in a catering or cleaning role, or indeed someone who has an interest in artisan food production and wishes to develop more experience.
Duties will include:
weekly deep clean of the premises
cleaning cheese-making equipment
assisting with aspects of cheese-making process alongside a cheese-maker
Essential Qualities
attention to detail
hard-working
high standards of cleanliness and hygiene;
willingness to learn and undertake training;
physical ability to stand throughout shifts and undertake physical work such as lifting and cleaning.
Candidates will need to be available to work a 6 hour shift on a Monday, plus 6-8 hours on other days of the week (timings and days can be negotiated to suit the candidate). Additional hours may be available if desired.
Starting pay will be at £12.60/ hour.

Milker/ stockperson (goats) - part-time (minimum of 2 regular shifts per week)
Our milking times are 7am and 5pm, with shifts varying according to how many goats are being milked, but typically taking 90-180 minutes. We have a milking herd of 200 goats (plus youngstock) and pride ourselves on high standards of hygiene, animal health and animal welfare. You will be working in a brand-new DeLeval rapid-exit parlour with 36 places. You will need to be confident working around farm animals, but we are open to candidates with or without previous experience of dairy goats and/ or milking; training can be provided for the right candidate.
Duties will include:
carrying out milking shifts including set-up and wash down
routine goat husbandry tasks such as feeding and bedding up
Essential Qualities
confidence working around farm animals
interest in farm animal health and welfare
hard-working and efficient
ability to both follow instructions and use own initiative
high standards of hygiene in the milking parlour
physical ability to stand throughout shifts and undertake a physical job
Candidates will need to be available to work at least two regular shifts per week (which days and whether this is morning or afternoon can be negotiated, but at least some weekend availability is an advantage), plus willingness to take on additional relief and cover shifts. Regular additional hours may also be available, and we are open to this role being combined with one of the cheese-making roles for the right candidate.
