Assistant Cheesemaker

Full time assistant cheesemaker required to join our small multi award-winning artisan goats cheese business based on the Earth Trust farm near Wallingford, Oxfordshire (www.nortonandyarrow.co.uk). We are a friendly, family owned organisation with our own herd of pedigree goats also kept on the site, and you will be joining a small team of other full and part time employees. Full training is provided and we are open minded about what experience may be relevant to the role.

Duties will include:

• assisting with all aspects of the cheese making process, including starting makes, ladelling curd, moulding and salting cheeses;

• cleaning and preparing equipment;

• turning and caring for cheese during ageing;

• packing and wrapping;

• general cleaning of the cheese making equipment and premises.

Essential qualities in the successful candidate:

• hardworking;

• keen attention to detail;

• ability to both follow instructions carefully and use your own initiative;

• meticulous standards of cleanliness and hygiene;

• interest in understanding the process of cheese making;

• willingness to learn and undertake training;

• physical ability to stand throughout shifts and undertake physical work such as lifting and cleaning.

Experience working in an environment such as catering/ food preparation or cleaning (domestic or commercial) would be relevant although not essential. Some regular weekend work will be part of the shift pattern. Salary is £12 per hour (£24950 annual). We welcome any questions from prospective candidates.
