Our new creamery starts life...

Over the summer, we were working hard on a planning application and grant application for building a new micro creamery just next to where we milk the goats at the Earth Trust farm. We currently make cheese at Nettlebed Creamery in a wonderful building where we rent some rooms. However the 8 mile journey by road to get the milk there every day is a bit impractical so our dream has been to get the goats and the cheese making all on one site.

In early September, we heard that our planning application had been successful, and a couple of weeks later that we had been awarded a LEADER grant which is a European funding stream which will meet 40% of the project costs. So the dream could go ahead! Work started at the start of October with the groundworks, and we now have a concrete pad for the two converted shipping containers (which will become our cheese making and ageing rooms) to sit on.

The milk will exit the parlour and be piped directly into a vat.

Stay tuned for more updates! We are aiming to complete the project by Christmas so we can move all our equipment down ready to start making again in the new year. Watch this space...
