Sixth months selling cheese

September 6, 2016

Today is the sixth month anniversary of our first ever cheese sale. Phew! We've been making cheese for much longer than that (nearly two years to the day, in fact) but our first official sale was on March 6th at South Oxford Community Market to a lovely woman who volunteers there. Half a year - and quite a few cheeses - later, we're still here and enjoying a life of cheese and goats.

Looking back over what we've done so far, we've had some brilliant highs. Winning awards and medals at the Artisan Cheese Fair and the British Cheese Awards are moments that particularly stand out. We're now selling enough cheese to make ten times as much per week as we were in back in March, and our cheeses are selling in shops across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire, and have recently even made it as far as Paxton and Whitfield in London. Apparently David Cameron has even tried and bought one of our cheeses!

Of course there have been one or two lows too. Dropping an entire batch of cheese onto the floor having just painstakingly ladeled it into draining bags (this was back in May), and then having to throw out kilos of curd and start the make all over again...well, that wasn't a great moment. A few evenings along the way when we've ended up still making cheese at 11pm at night after an early morning start have also been 'tiring' shall we say.

We've learnt heaps however and most importantly we're still going! If the next six months go as quickly as these first ones then we'll be celebrating our first cheese anniversary before we know it. Watch this space...
